News from Morocco: it has been reported that the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and the World Bank will be gathering in Marrakech, Morocco later this week for their yearly meeting. The last time such meeting held was fifty years ago.
Both institutions traditionally hold their week-long meeting far away from their headquarters in Washington every 2 or 3 years.
The meeting have been postponed twice due to the COVID-19 pandemic, and recently the threat of a third postponement almost arises due to last month’s earthquake in Morocco, however the meeting will finally kick off on Monday.
In the meeting’s opening speech, that was delivered on Thursday in Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire, International Monetary Fund Managing Director Kristalina Georgieva revealed that “a prosperous 21st century requires a prosperous Africa”.
